Cross-play games are growing in numbers today. These types of games allow a player from different gaming platforms to play with each other.
Some cross-play games are not supported on some consoles. However, there are a lot of options right now ranging from simulation games to first-person shooters.
Cross-play games are difficult to create before due to the different processing architectures of consoles and PC. Right now, developers have closed the gap, and consoles now have a processor that can rival gaming computers.
Some companies, though, are hesitant in opening their console to other platforms. It is a great move to grow the company’s own player base. But it is risky as well. Game developers might prioritize creating a cross-play game for other consoles due to its accessibility to a larger audience.
There a lot of cross-play games available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Here are some of the best games available for several platforms.
1. Dauntless

Get the monster-slaying action of Monster Hunter and combine it with Fortnite’s visuals, then Dauntless will be the result.
It takes place in a fantasy land where Behemoths roam free. Players then take the role of a Slayer to kill Behemoths and collect loots.
As the level gets higher, tougher Behemoths appear. Weapon upgrades and crafting is included to improve the Slayer’s stats.
Elemental properties are included in the game as well. This means that crafting must be taken seriously, as certain weapons with infused elements can deal greater damage on certain Behemoths.
Epic Games is offering Dauntless for free on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android devices.
2. Fortnite

Fortnite is the front runner when it comes to battle royale games. It has a large player base that spans all platforms available right now. Whether it is on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, or mobile, it is available for free.
This game might be familiar for most gamers, but for those who are not, it is a third-person shooting game. The premise is similar to other battle royale games wherein the player is transported into a remote island.
All 100 players battle it out through a closing ring until there is one winner. Other game modes include Duos and 50 vs 50.
3. Rocket League

For car lovers and football fanatics, Rocket League is the one for you. It is a unique game because it combines those two genres.
Players control rocket-powered vehicles in a football match. These cars have the ability to jump high and hit the ball or gather power-ups for a quick speed burst.
If visualizing cars that launch a giant ball into the goal is hard, think of it as a foosball but with Hotwheels in a huge arena instead.
Rocket League is one of the first games to feature cross-play. It is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
4. Minecraft

Gaming is not complete without Minecraft. This game has cemented itself as the best sandbox video game available. With Minecraft, one can create giant castles to replicas of working equipment. The opportunity is limitless.
Besides Rocket League, Minecraft joined the cross-play community early on. It is available on the Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile today.
As proof of greatness, Minecraft is hailed as one of the greatest video games created of all time.
Due to its popularity, there are several spinoffs available: Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Earth, and the latest one, Minecraft Dungeons.
5. Smite

Smite is a third-person multiplayer online battle arena game developed by Hi-Rez Studios. It provides a unique perspective as it moves away from the typical top-down view of other MOBAs.
Smite takes the common mechanics of a MOBA and created its own variety. One of the game modes is Conquest. This allows the player to form a five-man team and compete with another team. The end game is to destroy the opponent’s Phoenix and Titan.
This game involves a lot of different strategies, which makes it nice to play with friends. Gods need to synergize well with one another to form a great combination. One huge mistake on the lineup may cause the team to fail miserably.
It is similar to League of Legends in the sense that the map is symmetrical. Matches are also played quicker compared to DOTA 2.
It is currently available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation, and the Nintendo Switch.
