In a report published by the Brazilian news outlet Globo, the luxurious Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 that was seized from Cláudio Oliveira, also known as Bitcoin King, will be used by the police, temporarily.
The Lamborghini Gallardo is arguably every man’s dream car. The seized LP 560-4 is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine with 560 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. It can also reach a top speed of 325 km/h. This particular model is estimated to have a price tag of $152,000.
Contrary to everyone’s expectations, the Gallardo won’t be used by the police as a regular car. Instead, it was decided that it would be better used as a display at exhibitions and even at educational events. But the end plan for the pricey car is to auction it and donate the proceeds to Bitcoin King’s victims.
Anti-crypto fraud operation
The arrest of the notorious Cláudio Oliveira is the result of the police’s ”Operation Daemon”, which consists of 90 federal police tasked to monitor Bitcoin King’s operation.
Upon investigation, the police found that Oliveira was the head of a sophisticated cryptocurrency network that stole $300 million from thousands of victims.
Bitcoin King was found to be the “king” of the Bitcoin Banco Group, which lured investors with high returns on investments.
7,000 BTC
The scam was a very organized one in that it was able to generate 7,000 Bitcoins from fraudulent transactions. In 2019, it claimed that it had to freeze all of the investors’ money because of a “cyberattack” that resulted in the loss of 7,000 BTC.
Authorities got wind of this incident and discovered it was all a false claim, and intended to get away with all the investors’ money.
