Talking about the lawsuit in detail, then states that the publisher used many images without their photographer’s consent.
In the complaint obtained by Polygon, Judy A. Juracek alleges that Capcom used about 80 of her photographs. She licenses out her images for this purpose, but the publisher is not one of her customers.
Speaking of the court documents, then Juracek reveals more than 200 situations where it might have used her photographs. The games included are Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.
The photographer filed the complaint last Friday in a Connecticut court.
In her filing, she also points to a data breach from last year. It included a leaked Resident Evil artwork.
What’s interesting to note here is that the hacked files showed few labels found on the CD-ROM that has her book’s name. The book is titled Surfaces, which was published in 1996 for “visual research” purposes, as per Judy.
Now connecting these things to Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games might turn out true if that’s the case. Because both these franchises are known to use exceptionally great details when it comes to images and backgrounds.
Juracek is seeking attorney fees, along with $150,000 in damages, for each of the 80 pictures used. It amounts to a total of about $12 million.
It will be interesting to see the response from Capcom in the coming days or weeks.
