A new Yakuza title is up for announcement at the end of the week. While Yakuza 7: Like A Dragon is not out yet, a new one will unravel this Sunday, September 27.
The new Yakuza will likely come out in Japan first. Yakuza Like A Dragon would still need to come out in the West and on PC on November 13. The announcement is likely a leak, as the original announcement came down today.
Sega to announce the game this Sunday
Yakuza is a much-awaited title both for Japan and the West. Its simulation of the Japanese gangster life is spot-on, with a ton of things to do. The world design is not only beautiful but realistic too.
The love for Yakuza is akin to how people love the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Fans play as a gangster or mafia looking to influence the world around them. The only difference is that Yakuza is a much more catered world.
The franchise is phenomenal for Sega. It’s one of the better IPs around for the company apart from their Persona series via Atlus.
The next iteration of Yakuza, Like A Dragon, will come out around mid-November. In Japan, the game released earlier this year and gave thorough fun to many players. As the west is about to get Like A Dragon, Sega is about to announce a new title.
In a now taken down tweet, Tokyo Game Show 2020 co-host Ayana Tsubaki detailed the release. The announcement will be this Sunday, September 27, at 8 p.m. JST. That timezone translates to 7 a.m. ET/4 a.m.PT.
Fans can watch the announcement on Youtube, Nico Nico, and Periscope too. There’s no clear information on what the title of the new game will be.
Upcoming Yakuza needs to be innovative
The new Yakuza title is a mystery to everyone so far. Sega rarely announces titles so closely, especially when the game is not yet out in the West. Even then, it will likely take a bit of time before the next title will come out.
It’s questionable, however, how much further can Sega innovate with this franchise. The story already developed enough that there is very little to tell about its world. It’s for the players to see if Sega still has something to offer.
For those still waiting for Yakuza 7, it’s best to tune into the Tokyo Game Show for more potential details. Players who want to take a glimpse of the new Yakuza game would need to wake up early. More details will come out soon.
