Although it wasn’t required or requested by anyone, Sony just asked Naughty Dog to develop a PS5 remake of 2013’s The Last of Us.
Yes, you read that right. A new The Last of Us remake for PS5 is now in the works at Naughty Dog.
A new report revealed the big news.
‘The Last of Us’ PS5 remake details
A Bloomberg report first revealed the remake news about The Last of Us getting a remaster for the PS5 console.
Initially, a small development team was set up, at Sony Visual Art Services Group, for doing the new version of the 2013 blockbuster. However, it stopped working on it.
Now, the remake will be helmed by none other than Naughty Dog, the title’s original developer.
The last team from Sony Visual Arts Services Group will now only assist in making the new version.
As per the report, the small studio team was denied additional funding from Sony for this project. It’s because of the approval for a remake just on a probationary basis.
Moreover, the head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst, wasn’t convinced for another version at all.
There were some serious issues as well.
Eventually, handed over the entire responsibility for doing the PS5 remake to Naughty Dog.

Was a remake necessary?
When it comes to the players themselves, they don’t seem to be too excited. After the news broke on the internet, most people expressed their disappointment over social media.
People think that Sony’s just trying to make money out of a game they have already purchased and finished. And that a remastered version won’t change anything.
On the other hand, several gamers also said that The Last of Us hasn’t even aged even to need a remake.
Initially launched the title on June 13, 2013. It will complete its eight years in the next two months.
Overall, most of the franchise fans aren’t happy, at all, upon knowing about the news.
Meanwhile, the second installment released in 2020 is still one of the most popular games.
In March, revealed that it emerged as the third-best-selling UK boxed title for the week ending February. A hefty price cut was the main reason for that, though.
A TV show based on the blockbuster franchise is also in the early development stages.
The post-apocalyptic HBO series will star The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal as Joel and Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
