Agents of SHIELD just dropped its season 7 episode 1 on Wednesday. It still feels surreal for the fans to see the series go this far and at the same time to see it closing soon. But is it really goodbye for good for Agent Phil Coulson’s team?
According to reports, the impending series finale of Agents of SHIELD has been causing rumors of a spin-off to surface.
Show producers Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell decided to coyly address the potential of a follow-up series at some point.
Addressing the rumors
Deadline spoke with the bosses behind the show and one of the questions was whether Agents of SHIELD will really end after 13 episodes of season 7.
Loeb simply laughed along with an answer to “Is anything ever really over nowadays?”

Meanwhile, Bell decided to give viewers a brief background of their work. He said that those issues are way above their pay grade.
He also mentioned Disney+ and how Disney has been restructuring with ABC and Marvel. Thus, those kinds of questions are really beyond what they have any say in.
The producers are basically not in the position to say whether the series will have more after season 7. However, it doesn’t imply as negative for sure.
Loeb is still hopeful that fans will still get to see more of the agents again in the future.
There were also rumors going around saying that the spin-off is going to be based around Chloe Bennet’s character Quake. But Bennet already debunked it in a chat with fans on social media.
“I wish that were true… but they aren’t… I haven’t heard anything about that besides on Twitter,” she insisted.
Some fans have noted as well that maybe there’s a low chance for a spin-off based on the past attempts.
Both Marvel’s Most Wanted and Ghost Rider were sadly canceled before they ever got a series commitment. Most Wanted would have featured Agents, Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse.
Clark Gregg on his character
In the midst of the spin-off rumors, Clark Gregg addressed the question of whether he would play as Agent Coulson again once the series is over.
But like most people involved in the show, Gregg also has nothing much to divulge.
“This seems like a real good time to announce that … I really don’t know,” Gregg shared with a laugh.

I don’t know anything! It’s hard for me to imagine a scenario where I’d say, ‘No, I’m too busy to put on whatever the latest version of the suit is and go play Phil Coulson,'” he added.
He also said that he learned from his character to never say never. So should the universe decide to whip up something again from Agents of SHIELD, then fans can expect Gregg to be part of it.
