The AirPods 3 is expected to bank on the popularity of its predecessor and the AirPods Pro in terms of design and key features.
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a.k.a Apple’s most noted tipster has revealed that Apple is planning to release its third-generation AirPods during the first half of 2021.
AirPods Pro design to remain
The latest research note from Kuo stated that the new AirPods is set to be patterned on the current AirPods Pro. The fresh design of the Pro variant of Apple’s “hearables” features a more effective fit in the ear. It also comes with three different-sized pairs of silicone ear tips, alongside a more bulging shape.
Unveiled in November 2019, the AirPods Pro comes with several upgraded perks over the regular AirPods. These include active noise cancellation, improved sound quality, and water and sweat resistance.
A mix of the originals and the Pro
While Kuo didn’t elaborate further on the inclusion of silicon ear tips or a reduction of the stems, it is surmised that the new AirPods could have the longer stems of the originals and the silicon ear tips of the Pro. It is also important to note too that the stems on the Pro version are much shorter.
But changing the length of the stems of the AirPods 3 could also push Apple to redesign some important components. As it is, the company might have to redesign its battery, as it also happened with the Pro edition.
Too early for a modification
In terms of the overall design, Apple could be mulling over Kuo’s prediction – that is, to stick with the AirPods Pro’s aesthetics. The reason behind this couldn’t be that complicated. The current AirPods still sports a reasonably new design that it would be unusual for the firm to move on to something different altogether. Also, it’s a bit too soon.
The unchanged design of the AirPods 3 could also have something to do with the current selling numbers of the AirPods and AirPods Pro. And news flash: They are huge! Consequently, there is little need on Apple’s end to modify something that is already more appealing in the first place.
No EarPods in iPhone 12
Meanwhile, Kuo reiterated that the iPhone 12 models would not be launching with EarPods out of the box. The decision behind for Apple to boost the AirPods shipment into 2021.
Kuo shared further that the AirPods shipments could benefit from some promotion program launching during the second half of 2020. Ultimately, this may allow consumers to purchase AirPods at a discounted price, alongside the imminent launch of the iPhone 12 series.
