Alan Wake Remastered is now official, with the game coming from a decade-long hiatus to show off a more modern form of the original title in 4K visuals.
Remedy has now officially announced Alan Wake Remastered, with the studio slating a Fall 2021 release for the much-awaited cult classic. The game will come out on PC and consoles as published by Epic Games. The release will include the complete game, its two expansions, and some new features as well.
Remedy dedicates remaster to fanbase
In an open letter to its Alan Wake fan site The Sudden Stop, creative director Sam Lake dedicated the re-release of their game to its fans. The title originally was a cult classic, but gained a bigger and bigger following as the years went on.
We can't thank you enough for the love and support you've shown #AlanWake these 11 years… but I can try.
I wrote you a letter on our lovely, long-time fan site, @TheSuddenStop.
Welcome to Bright Falls, again, for the first time. ❤️ 🔦 This is for you. https://t.co/XasoyzjttL pic.twitter.com/SSSBRWpCwm

“This is for you,” opened Lake. “Alan Wake came out over 11 years ago, and through that time, you have told us again and again how much you love the game, the story, the characters, and the lore. And that matters a lot to us.
“We love this game as well. I love this game. The remaster is coming because of your support for Alan Wake through the years.
“That is why we felt it was fitting to make this announcement here, at The Sudden Stop, which has been an integral part of the Remedy community since back in 2012, when it started out as an Alan Wake fansite.
“The Remedy community wouldn’t be what it is today without The Sudden Stop, and we wanted to show our gratitude by telling you about Alan Wake Remastered right here.”
Remaster will have the original experience
Alan Wake Remastered will have the original experience in its entirety, but with many improvements for the game. The visuals, for example, come up to 4K for modern gaming. Furthermore, Alan Wake himself, as well as the game’s cinematics, are available for next-gen consoles.
The original Alan Wake title came out in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PC. The story follows the titular best-selling horror novelist trying to uncover the mystery behind his missing wife. Subsequently, he experiences events from his supposed “next book”, which he does not remember writing at all.
“Alan Wake Remastered is the original experience you fell in love with all those years ago. We did not want to change that,” added Sam Lake. “But the visuals all around, including the character model of Alan Wake himself and the cinematics, have been updated and improved with some choice next-generation upgrades.”
Remedy already agreed with a two-title publishing deal with Epic Games. Furthermore, the first will be a AAA title, rumored to be Alan Wake 2. The second “smaller-scale” title is set in the same franchise, which should be Alan Wake Remastered.
