Alec Baldwin, reportedly, left his estate following the shooting incident but remains cooperative on the authorities’ investigation.
On Wednesday, Santa Fe sheriff Adan Mendoza spearheaded a conference where he addressed several questions surrounding Alec Baldwin and the recent accidental shooting incident.
Per Mendoza, they do not exactly know where Baldwin currently resides now. However, he noted that the authorities do not have an idea on his whereabouts as they have not asked him to stay in New Mexico. The actor also remains cooperative in the ongoing investigation.
Most recently, he retweeted an article by The New York Times about the latest release of a search warrant.
“Before he handed a revolver that he had declared “cold” to Alec Baldwin on the set of the film “Rust,” Dave Halls, an assistant director, told a detective he should have inspected each round in each chamber, according to an affidavit. But he did not,” the original tweet read.
Previous reports confirmed that assistant director Dave Halls handed the prop gun to Baldwin before saying “cold gun.” The term is being used in the industry whenever a weapon is not loaded with ammunition.
The Associated Press reported that Halls, however, did not have an idea about he live rounds inside the firearm.
Meanwhile, the actor himself publicly expressed his desire to cooperate with the investigation. He also assured he was in touch with Halyna Hutchins’ husband and had offered all his support to him and his family.
Assistant director admits gun-safety mistake
The new search warrant also revealed that assistant director David Halls, who handed Baldwin the gun, admitted to a safety lapse.
In his interview with the detectives, he said he could only remember seeing three rounds before continuing the rehearsal after a break. He also advised Hannah Gutierrez Reed to check everything, but Halls was not sure if the armorer spun the drum.
“I check the barrel for obstructions, most of the time there’s no live fire, she (Hannah) opens the hatch and spins the drum, and I say cold gun on set,” he said.
After the gun was fired, he, reportedly, picked up the gun and brought it to the armorer. He told her to open the gun so he could see what was inside. He then saw five rounds in the gun – four of which had dummy casings. Meanwhile, the other one did not have a hole.
In the end, he insisted that the incident was not a deliberate act.
