Alec Baldwin was completing his upcoming movie Rust when a tragic incident happened.
The Santa Fe Sheriff Department released a statement confirming that an accident occurred while Alec Baldwin was filming parts of his upcoming movie. The department, reportedly, sent deputies around 1:50 p.m as the call revealed that an individual was shot.
The two members of the film crew suffered during the incident at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, one of which – a female – has died.
According to the investigators, a prop firearm was being used during the filming when something was discharged out of it. They are currently looking into what type of bullet came out of it.
Meanwhile, the media release obtained by Fox News revealed that the 42-year-old female victim was transported via helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital. Unfortunately, she died moments later.
Meanwhile, the second victim was rushed to Christus St. Vincent’s Hospital via ambulance. The 42-year-old male is still receiving his treatment.
Rust showrunners reveal what happened to Baldwin movie’s set
Following the incident, a production spokesperson from Rush Movie Productions LLC released a statement on Thursday to address the issue.
Per the representative, the incident happened “involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks.” It also revealed to Deadline that the filming had been put on hold as the safety of their cast and crew members remains their top priority.
It also noted that criminal investigators were also sent to the scene. It remains unknown why they were sent or if a foul-play was involved in the shooting. Internet users already offered heartfelt messages to the victims on the set.
One said, “Alec Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins today. RIP. What an incredibly bizarre death.”
“it feels really f—ed to think alec baldwin accidentally killed cinematographer halyna hutchins today on set and her last instagram post is her talking about how excited she is to work on a western. this feels very heartbreaking? for everyone involved?” another added.
As seen on the exclusive photos by KOB4, it can be seen that the whole set of Rust has been put in lockdown. Anchor Tessa Mentus also confirmed that the actor and the producer of the film, Baldwin, was the one who discharged the prop gun that killed and harmed the crew members. Currently, no charges have been filed against the actor.
Following the revelation, internet users theorized that Baldwin was set up and tricked that the prop gun did not have anything inside it. Still, it should be taken with a grain of salt as nothing about the potential secret criminal action has been proven yet.
