Alyssa Milano shared she suffered from the dreaded coronavirus disease and warned the public that COVID-19 is not a hoax.
Alyssa Milano tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies after falling ill at the height of the coronavirus outbreak earlier this year.
The Charmed star said that she battled the disease for weeks, and she felt like dying during that time. She added that she experienced almost all the symptoms that include shortness of breath, fever, headache, and more.
Alyssa Milano opens up about her struggles to fight coronavirus
The 47-year-old actress revealed her positive diagnosis and road to recovery through social media. On Aug. 5, she updated her Instagram with a narrative of when she fell ill and how she dealt with it until she recovered.
Alyssa Milano also posted a photo that shows herself wearing an apparatus to aid with her breathing. She was ill since late March and needed the breathing device after being sick for two weeks.
“This was me (referring to her photo) on April 2nd after being sick for 2 weeks,” she wrote on Instagram. “I had never been this kind of sick. Everything hurt. Loss of smell. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I couldn’t breathe.”
While sick, she also lost her appetite and shed nine pounds in just two weeks. She had a low-grade fever and was confused. Her body aches, and she had all the symptoms of COVID-19.

This was me on April 2nd after being sick for 2 weeks. I had never been this kind of sick. Everything hurt. Loss of smell. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t keep food in me. I lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks. I was confused. Low grade fever. And the headaches were horrible. I basically had every Covid symptom. At the very end of march I took two covid19 tests and both were negative. I also took a covid antibody test (the finger prick test) after I was feeling a bit better. NEGATIVE. After living the last 4 months with lingering symptoms like, vertigo, stomach abnormalities, irregular periods, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, zero short term memory, and general malaise, I went and got an antibody test from a blood draw (not the finger prick) from a lab. I am POSITIVE for covid antibodies. I had Covid19. I just want you to be aware that our testing system is flawed and we don’t know the real numbers. I also want you to know, this illness is not a hoax. I thought I was dying. It felt like I was dying. I will be donating my plasma with hopes that I might save a life. Please take care of yourselves. Please wash your hands and wear a mask and social distance. I don’t want anyone to feel the way I felt. Be well. I love you all (well, maybe not the trolls. Just the kind people.)❤️
The tests and her road to recovery
Alyssa Milano disclosed that while sick, she had two tests done, and both came back with negative results. She also took the COVID antibody test, a finger prick test, and this, too, was negative.
She felt better at some point, and after four months with lingering symptoms, she got an antibody test.
This time she had her blood drawn in a lab and explained that this was not like her earlier test where they only pricked her finger for blood.
The results revealed she is positive for COVID-19 antibodies. Alyssa Milano went on to say that she realized that the testing system is flawed, so “we don’t know the real numbers.”
She ended her post by saying that this illness is not a joke and stressed she struggled to overcome the disease. Now that she feels better, Alyssa Milano said she is planning to donate her plasma to save lives.
“I also want you to know, this illness is not a hoax,” she warned. “I thought I was dying. It felt like I was dying.”
