The number of online orders in Amazon surged up due to the pandemic. As a result, Amazon is hiring 75,000 workers to cater to the increasing demand for people who are stuck at home and ordering products online.
Now that people hunkered in their homes, Amazon has received online orders of essential goods since they can’t go out to buy groceries. Last Monday, Amazon announced that the 100,000 jobs they recently announced are filled.
In their COVID-19 blog, Amazon wrote on Monday, “We know many people have been economically impacted as jobs in areas like hospitals, restaurants, and travel is lost or furloughed as part of this crisis. We welcome anyone out of work to join us at Amazon until things return to normal, and their past employer can bring them back.”
Amazon exceeds the initial budget
The tech giant confirmed that they had exceeded their initial budget of $350 million to $500 million. Now that Amazon is hiring 75,000 more staff after their announcement last mid-March to accommodate the pandemic demand.
It is now a struggle for balance. Sometimes, Amazon orders are delayed due to the lack of man labor. Due to the increasing surge of order demands, Amazon is hiring more workers while making sure they don’t violate the lawmakers. The safety of workers is intensified. Some of the facilities are shut due to the outbreak.
Amazon on safety precautions
Now that Amazon is hiring thousands of people, they are also responsible for the safety of their workers. On their blog post, they’ve mentioned intensified safety precautions that will protect the employees from the virus while working.
“Our top concern is ensuring the health and safety of our employees. We made over 150 process updates to help protect employees–from enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures to piloting new efforts like using disinfectant for in our New York fulfillment center.” Amazon added.
In the first week of the month, Amazon has released face masks for their workers and tightened their temperature checks as part of their safety measures. Amazon also assured their workers that a budget had been placed on testing all of the employees. It also includes the new workers that the Amazon is hiring today.
Available jobs on Amazon
Amazon is hiring shoppers, delivery, and warehouse jobs in the United States. They have also added an added $2 per hour starting April to make it more appealing despite the threat of COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of the jobs offered in Amazon are just temporary. They aim to help workers who are currently unemployed due to the pandemic. Anyone interested in these jobs can apply today.
