Over 1,500 reviews on Amazon report says AmazonBasics products are potentially hazardous.
Amazon products, including appliances, and electronics that carry the branding of AmazonBasics, are potentially dangerous, have been found to burst, catch fire, or melt, according to a recent report.
The private label was launched in 2009 that has over 5,000 products on the online marketplace. Most maximum of those products is categorized as “Amazon’s Choice” to tempt customer’s attention that visible on top of the equivalents from other trademarks.
Countless bad reviews for AmazonBasics products
Amazon is not limited to electronics and appliances; however, it is the place where people can buy anything like in the store. AmazonBasics sells its plethora of products in the U.S. — alongside India, the U.K., and other regional marketplaces.
People from the U.S. reportedly call out products from AmazonBasics as potentially hazardous, which can melt, explode, or catch fire quickly, according to the recent report by CNN.
The U.S. e-commerce giant man said to CNN that ‘safety is a high-priority’ at the company. It took many steps to verify the AmazonBasics products are safe and assured. However, the products categorized under private labels supposedly have quality and safety issues.
CNN obtained a failed commodity — a microwave oven from the buyer who purchased it on Amazon and sent it to the University of Maryland’s Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) for testing at the failure analysis lab. The testing result shows the design of the panel covering the microwave oven had an issue that could result in fire.
Chinese-made products being marketed on Amazon
Most of the electronics products marketed under the AmazonBasics brand are made in China, and the vast majority of products are also made available for acquisition in India, said three former Amazon employees.
In March 2018, reports say as many as 260,000 AmazonBasics power banks were burned in the U.S. It publicly recalled as a space heater, since after receiving a large number of complaints of overheating, burning, and sparking, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Bugs and overheating is an everyday thing in electronic products; however, the variety of products under AmazonBasics found to have such issues.
As per the ratings on Amazon, USB data cable — one of the most significant selling products that highlight issues even in branded one, it is unclear whether any buyers from India have faced the same problems.
More than 1,500 reviews on Amazon products that are labeled under AmazonBasics highlight safety and quality issues in the U.S., as per the report. There were also reports recently that Amazon stops the online sale of seeds.
