Even before its official release next month, Amazon’s upcoming MMO title New World has become highly popular on the Steam store.
The New World beta, at the moment, has gone past 190,000 concurrent players on Steam, which is a huge achievement and also proof of fans’ love for MMOs themselves.
‘New World’ is set to open big!
It’s been a long time since a great MMO hit the stores, until this summer.
Yes, there are other contenders as well when it comes to supremacy in this category. Crowfall and Swords of Legends Online are great options, no doubt. But the response to New World is just mind-blowing to witness.
Despite being in a closed beta, the Amazon game managed to go past 190,000 concurrent players, at once, on Steam.
As per Steam Data Base, New World peaked at 190,811 concurrent players.
With that, it also, somehow, becomes the fourth biggest title on the store. Interestingly, it leaves behind heavyweights such as Grand Theft Auto V and Apex Legends.
Furthermore, it also hit Twitch, gaining over 300,000 views, thus becoming the second most popular game.
It will be interesting to see the eventual response to the final version of the MMO when it arrives late in August.
Talking about the title itself, then it’s developed by Amazon’s game studio and on its Lumberyard engine.
It will be set in the mid-1600s, where players will colonize a fictional land. Its modeled after colonial America in the Atlantic Ocean.
The game will operate on a buy-to-play model, which means that you won’t have to pay a monthly fee compulsorily.
