A game feature that plays similarly like Among Us is coming to Fortnite, and it is called Impostors.
Last week, there was a rumor going around that suggests that a collaboration with InnerSloth’s Among Us may be in the works. This comes following some digging which seemingly points to a gameplay style akin to the game. The one said to have popularized it online. The hearsay turns out to be a misguided notion after the Among Us developers openly and officially debunked the claim. It appears that the response is on point to what it’s saying and is not merely playing demure about it.
Both companies may not have come up with an agreement for a crossover. However, it didn’t necessarily stopped Epic from cooking up its own flair, citing origins in board and card games. But, also, one that did not come into massive prominence in the online sense until Among Us came along.
Find the Culprits
Just today, Epic has published a blog highlighting the mechanics in its newly-introduced game mode called Impostors. Judging by it, Fortnite appears to be getting its own take in the social deduction game.
From the outset, the Impostors mode takes place in a place referred to as The Bridge. Essentially a hidden facility ran by the Imagined Order, it’s a venue where the island’s many events are established behind closed doors. But while an institution that ideally runs on its objective, the IO is also a group infiltrated with people hell-bent in taking over. Thus, leaving its community split between one of two factions. The true Agents that safeguard the IO and its ideals and the Impostors that came with their own sinister plot.
Game Mechanics
To be played by up to 10 players, Impostors has eight players play the role of Agents while leaving the other two as Impostors. The former, being elements that act as caretakers of the organization, fulfill their roles in the multiple aspects of its operations’ maintenance. Like, for instance, fixing the Battle Bus and overseeing the storms in the island.
Impostors, on the other hand, fulfill the devious role of eliminating the Agents until they remain standing through underhanded means. While deception may be the Impostors’ greatest weapon, they also have a set of arsenals that help them attain their dark objectives. For example, they can teleport players and transform every participating player into the image of Peely the Banana. Furthermore, they can also buy time by having the ability to pause on active assignments.
In the end, whichever side wins is a matter of every participating player’s ability to judge, based on existing or hidden cues. But one that does not always turn out towards an expected outcome.
