Among Us is being plagued with a cheating epidemic and in a game that values trust, it is definitely a big problem not just for players but for the developers as well.
Any decent game will have its fair share of cheaters. With popular games like Call of Duty, which already saw the banning of hundreds of thousands of players for cheating, it’s an even bigger problem. Now Among Us is experiencing the same problems.
Among Us is now the most popular game in the gaming hemisphere. And evidently, devious players are finding creative ways to cheat the system.
Cheating on Among Us, a senseless act
Cheating on the deception-driven game, Among Us, is senseless if you would think about it. Winning a match doesn’t offer any substantial rewards except for maybe the pleasure of outwitting others. Because there is nothing to be gained from winning, this makes cheating utterly senseless in the game.
However, it looks like cheaters in the game are doing it just for the fun of it. Cheating in Among Us comes in many different forms. For one, players are finding themselves with different nicknames from the ones they chose themselves. Sometimes players’ entire crews will be ejected or there will be another extra imposter in a match.
These acts completely ruin the fun for many other players. And it is not surprising that Innerslot is already working on a fix.
There is a difference between a GLITCH and CHEATING/HACKING

Find a solution
Innersloth had acknowledged the rampant cheating happening in their game. Because of this, they are moving towards implementing enhanced systems that would report and moderate these unfavorable situations. This along with blocking and detecting hacks are what Innerslot is currently focusing on.
“We’re rushing to get an account system in place so we can have better moderation and reporting systems built around that,” programmer Forest Willard tells Kotaku. “Also getting help with making the servers better at detecting and blocking hacks. And investigating client-side hack prevention as well. I’m sort of scrambling to get all the right people in place, but I’m attacking it from multiple angles so it can get better in many ways hopefully all at once.”
This is certainly a problem that Innersloth would not have expected. This is partly because they had released Among Us about two years ago and only gained traction when the pandemic hit. They were probably unprepared for the prominence they had gained. Therefore many would assume that they also would not have anticipated the problems brought by said prominence two years after the game’s release.
However, the studio did scrap their plans for a sequel to Among Us in favor of just focusing on and making the current game better. One can say that eradicating, or at least moderating cheating is one step towards making the game better.
