One of the alleged Android 12 screenshots showcases a new notifications panel UI. Transparency is gone and replaced with an opaque light beige background.
Google’s Android 12 Developer Beta reaffirmed its release date this week. According to the tech giant, the devices that’ll likely gain access to the new operating system will differ from the list of devices that had access to the first wave of Developer Beta.
The list of devices Google works with to test the Android OS developer beta will be relatively limited. The full Android 12 release schedule will expand beyond the first few lists.
Google’s new OS
After Developer Previews and Betas, Google will release its next major Android version later this year. The new operating system will be called Android 12, which follows the routine of naming the tech giant’s OS.
It is expected that the following devices will gain access to the Developer Beta of Android 12 at launch or soon after that. This list is not confirmed nor official from any public source as yet.
- Google Pixel 5, 4a, 4a 5G
- Google Pixel 4, 4XL
- Google Pixel 3, 3XL, 3A, 3A 5G
Ahead of its rumored release date, Google shares documentation and source code with its significant partners to give them time to prepare for the release. Today, an alleged early draft of a document that Google made to summarize changes in Android 12 leaked online.
The screenshots show the new UI and functional changes to the OS that are extracted from the document. While we can’t fully confirm these screenshots’ authenticity, we have seen evidence that these images are true and real because these screenshots indeed came from said document.
Android 12 Expected Look
According to XDA, one of the alleged Android 12 screenshots showcases the new notifications panel UI. There is no transparency feature anymore. Instead, it is now with an opaque light beige background. However, the color and opacity depending on the theme of whether or not Dark Mode is enabled.
The old notification design and the separation between the conversations section are still there but with more pronounced rounded corners. The number of Quick Settings tiles shown when the notification panel is partially expanded has become larger. Date and clock positions have been swapped, while new privacy indicators are also in the top right-hand corner.
For the added feature of the Android 12, Google may add new privacy features. You receive a warning in the status bar indicator whenever an app is using the camera or microphone. The new settings may also contain toggles to disable the camera and mute the microphone entirely, in addition to toggle location access.
