According to National Enquirer, being celibate was a decision that Angelina Jolie made because of the things that happened in her life.
Years ago, the actress underwent a double mastectomy following a cancer scare. An unnamed source told the tabloid that the procedure left Jolie with little to not drive for any form of intimacy.
To add insult to injury, Jolie and Pitt’s divorce also, allegedly, contributed to the actress’s lifestyle. The split was, allegedly, so brutal that it took Jolie years to move on from her ex-husband.
The tabloid tried to make their claims more believable by asking an expert to talk about the possible effects of having a double mastectomy. However, Dr. Gabe Mirkin didn’t treat Jolie, and he didn’t design the actress’s treatment.
“Angelina had her ovaries removed because she has the BRCA1 gene that markedly increases the risk of breast cancer. However, removing estrogen reduces libido. All the surgeries may have ultimately saved her life – but it certainly left her feeling less sensual,” he said.
According to the source, one of the reasons why Angelina Jolie and Pitt’s marriage didn’t survive is because they stopped prioritizing their intimate moments together. Doing so, allegedly, amplified the differences between the A-listers.
The insider also said that Jolie’s lack of drive for intimacy may have been influenced by her parents’ troubled marriage.
“She loved her mom and wasn’t thrilled by the way he treated her. Winding up in a loveless marriage was nothing new to her,” the source said.
However, one should take the claims made by the tabloid with a grain of salt. It is unlikely for Jolie and Pitt to have been in a loveless marriage because they were together for so long.
During his interview with Ellen DeGeneres on Ellen Show, Pitt dished on his intimate moments with his then-wife.
“We find our time. We carve out mommy, daddy time… It’s called a hotel. You got to get out of this house. You got to leave,” he said.
In 2015, Jolie opened up about her surgery, and it was evident that she was happy with her decision to push through with the procedure.
“I feel older and I feel settled. I feel very happy that I’ve grown up,” Angelina Jolie said.
