Angelina Jolie won big after starring in the movie Girl Interrupted, but she never thanked her co-star Winona Ryder, according to a report.
Angelina Jolie won an award for playing the role of Lisa in the movie that Winona Ryder also starred and produced. However, the Maleficent star reported didn’t thank Ryder.
Angelina Jolie allegedly never thanked Winona Ryder
Winona Ryder was so involved in the 1999 American psychological drama film Girl Interrupted. Aside from appearing in the film, she also produced it.
Initially, Ryder was asked to play the role of Lisa. Ryder knew the character has the potential to win big awards. She knew that any actress who would play the role would get the attention. But she turned it down because she preferred to play the role of Sussana, the protagonist.
The role was Jolie’s shot to fame after winning an Oscar. According to RepublicWorld.com, Ryder really wanted Jolie to be a part of the film and gave the role to her. But Jolie allegedly never thanked the Beetlejuice star for it.
“It wasn’t [Jolie’s] style” to express gratitude, Ryder said, according to the outlet.
Ryder and Jolie are not friends
Winona Ryder said she wanted to be friends with Angelina Jolie. In fact, she initially thought they would be good friends. However, she was left disappointed because Jolie wasn’t interested in making friends with her. Brad Pitt’s ex-wife was so distant to her.
“I remember thinking, ‘Oh, we’re going to turn out to be great friends,’” Ryder shared per Showbiz Cheatsheet.
“But I think she needed to be able to look at me just as the character Susanna, not as Winona. So in a very respectful way, she just kind of kept her distance.”
Angelina’s statement about God
In related news, Angelina Jolie directed the movie Unbroken. It was an American war film that followed the life of a former prisoner of war (POW) Louis Zamperini’s journey through trauma to finding God.
The movie received mixed responses because Jolie skipped the central theme of his life – his transformation when he found God. Many also questioned her credibility for directing the movie because Zamperini was very religious and Jolie is not. In fact, she made a statement that raised a few eyebrows.
“There doesn’t need to be a God for me. There’s something in people that’s spiritual, that’s godlike,” Jolie said in the past.
Although many criticized it, Brad Pitt’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, who is often pitted against Jolie praised it.
“I mean, that movie is so beautiful and wonderful, and she did such a gorgeous job,” Aniston said per The Wrap.
