Angelina Jolie lost bid to remove judge from Brad Pitt divorce case

Angelina Jolie lost her bid to remove Judge John W. Ouderkirk from her divorce battle with Brad Pitt.

Earlier, Angelina Jolie filed a legal complaint to stop John W. Ouderkirk from overseeing her and Brad Pitt’s divorce case.

Ouderkirk will continue to overlook Jolie, Pitt’s case

In the court documents obtained by Us Weekly, it revealed the former couple’s case would be continuously “assigned to Honorable Judge W. Ouderkirk (Ret.) for all purposes.”

A source then confirmed Ouderkirk would still conduct Jolie and Pitt’s case. The two are now preparing for their impending custody hearing.

Previously, the 45-year-old actress wanted Ouderkirk to stop handling her divorce with his ex-husband.

She alleged the judge “failed to disclose the business and professional relationships” he had with Pitt’s legal team.

As a response, the 56-year-old actor’s team revealed a “well-documented” history between Ouderkirk and his two clients.

The justice, alternatively, responded to Jolie’s accusations in detail.

“The Objection to my continued service does not change my ability to objectively view and evaluate the evidence presented by both sides and apply the law impartially,” he said in court documents.

He also noted that the Maleficent star failed to prove he was biased in the case.

“Thank you for considering the issues presented affecting the lives of these parties and their children,” Ouderkirk concluded.

A battle between Jolie, Pitt’s legal teams

With Jolie’s move, a source told Us Pitt believed his ex-wife had “gone way too far.” So, he was left with no choice but to “dig in and fight back – hard.”

His legal team said what the famed humanitarian did was a “transparently tactical gambit” to delay their case, which would affect their children the most.

They saw Jolie’s request for Ouderkirk’s removal as “a thinly-veiled attempt to delay the adjudication of long-pending custody issues in this case.”

Jolie’s camp then hit back, saying she just wanted a “fair trial with no special favors” for either of them.

“All my client is asking for is a fair trial based on facts, with no special favors extended to either side,” Jolie’s lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, said in a statement, via Daily Mail. “The only way litigants can trust the process is for everyone involved to ensure that there’s transparency and impartiality.”

West Coast Trial Lawyers president Neama Rahmani supported Angelina Jolie. She saw Ouderkirk as “biased,” believing he’s in favor of Brad Pitt due to the connection they had.
