Angelina Jolie somehow made Brad Pitt uncomfortable when they were filming romantic scenes for their movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt met in 2004 when they starred in the action-romance movie directed by Doug Liman. According to reports, they fell in love on set, and it prompted his divorce from ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.
Angelina Jolie was ‘such a force to be reckoned with’
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt played as husband and wife in the Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Since they were a couple in the movie, they had a number of romantic scenes.
According to director Doug Liman, they were uncomfortable with the “too close for comfort” scenes, including Pitt but not Jolie. Liman was raised in a “relatively uptight family” so he was bothered by it.
“They were pretty comfortable with it. I mean, I think Brad and I were more uncomfortable, ’cause she’s such a force to be reckoned with. Occasionally she’d make a comment and both of us would be like, Whoa!” Liman recalled per The News.
Director didn’t want to upset Jennifer Aniston’s fans
Liman shared that at one point, he discussed with Dave Matalon, who runs Regency, to tone down the romantic scenes. He admitted that he didn’t want to upset Jennifer Aniston’s fans.
At the time, Aniston starred on NBC’s sitcom Friends, which ran for ten years. She had a huge fan base, and since she was Brad Pitt’s wife, her fans were expected to support the movie, too. The director was worried that the film would cause an issue between the two women’s fandom.
“Look, I’m honestly worried about the Jennifer Aniston fans out there,” Liman continued.
“I don’t want to lose that little niche audience of people who are huge Jennifer Aniston fans who are going to hate Angelina Jolie if the scene is too sexy.”
Jennifer Aniston recalled only encounter with Jolie
The Cake actress said that she encountered Angelina Jolie once. According to Jennifer Aniston, she pulled over and introduced herself.
Aniston also told Jolie that her husband at the time, Brad Pitt, was excited to film with her. She also wished that they would have a great time together.
Jolie denied the encounter in one interview. However, according to the Eternal star, she reacted that way when asked about the encounter because, for her, it was not a proper meeting.
“We’ve, like, passed each other and said hi briefly, shook hands. But not a real sit-down-and-talk kind of meeting,” Jolie said about the encounter.
Brad Pitt changed when he started filming with ‘Maleficent’ star
When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie started filming, Jennifer Aniston’s sitcom, Friend, was also ending. She was suffering from separation anxiety and tried to reach out to her husband, but he changed after meeting Jolie.
“He just wasn’t there for me,” Aniston said.
