Angelina Jolie reportedly shared a meaningful friendship with Val Kilmer after their casting in Alexander in 2004.
Years later, Kilmer penned a book titled I’m Your Huckleberry, where he detailed his special bond with Jolie. The actor revealed that he was in Jolie’s life when her mother lost her battle to cancer.
“They were living in her mom’s favorite hotel. Or maybe it was Angie’s. I happened to be staying there myself. It was meaningful and mortal and effortless and exquisite,” he wrote.
Val Kilmer thinks Angelina Jolie is beautiful
Kilmer also revealed that Jolie had just split from Billy Bob Thornton when they starred in Alexander. At that time, the actress was, reportedly, at her most beautiful.
“I couldn’t wait to kiss Angie, buy her [a] Gulfstream jet, and have V+J painted in rainbow glory on the trail. She had recently adopted her first child, Maddox, and the paparazzi were obsessed with this postmodern Madonna, the perfect picture of unapproachable stardom and impossibly chic maternal instinct,” Kilmer wrote.
The Top Gun star had nothing but praise for Jolie. He said that when people ask him about the actress, he tells them that she’s just like other celebrities but just more.
Kilmer described the mom of six as “more wise, more gorgeous, more tragic, more magic, and more grounded.” He also said Jolie was worth all the effort he put into getting to know her better.
Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie’s relationship
Unfortunately for Kilmer, his friendship with Jolie did not progress into something more. Just one year after they starred in Alexander, Jolie’s casting in Mr. & Mrs. Smith alongside Pitt made headlines.
At that time, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston, but they eventually filed for divorce. Pitt and Jolie started dating shortly after.
During her interview with Vogue, Jolie admitted to trying to stop herself from falling in love with Pitt. After all, the Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star is aware that Pitt was still married to Aniston at that time.
But there was a defining moment when Jolie finally decided to jump ship with Pitt. She said that it was after her adopted son, Maddox called the Ad Astra star dad.
At that time, Maddox was just 2 years old and he was playing cards with Pitt. Jolie and Pitt stayed silent after hearing what the young boy said.
