Gillette Venus, that popular shaving product, is entering the islands of Animal Crossing: New Horizons with a variety of codes that seek to showcase skin diversity in the virtual world.
Dubbed the “Skinclusive Summer Line,” this collection of codes contain in-game “cosmetics” that highlight a number of women’s typical skin issues, which includes common problems like acne, freckles, stretch marks, cellulite, scars, and other dermatological concerns. Problems that, while manageable, are otherwise permanent fixtures to women’s most superficial layer—their skin.

Fighting Common Convention
While hardly a thing to flaunt about in traditional thinking, the idea goes contrary by coinciding the “My Skin, My Way” campaign. An initiative that seeks to lionize women’s rights to feel good in their skin. Suggesting that women should not take their flaws as an embarrassment but rather a thing to embrace as part of their reality.
Animal Crossing players can now choose from 19 different skin types and eight different skin tones, thanks to @GilletteVenus. https://t.co/ZIT59PKwAJ

With too many to choose from, it’s close to impossible for one not to find a perfect representation of their skin. Unless, of course, they are among the rare few who barely have any skin issue at all. Which otherwise beats the purpose of the skinclusive summer line-up.
A Joyous Occasion
In celebration of the launch, Gillette Venus also releases a commercial showcasing the skins that players can expect from the program. It shows the various skin “aesthetics” born from the program at exactly how they would look when worn.
Aimed to promote the cause, the company is sharing a 36-page lookbook that contains the codes and images for each entry in the line-up. In addition, the reference material also holds pieces of information relative to the topic, as pickings from the mind of the designer herself.
The launch of the quirky aesthetics is indeed a highlight of the campaign. Adding in the celebration also is a show that is set to take place on YouTube Live on August 31, 2020, at 7 PM EST. Participants of the “socially distant summer event” can expect a surprise celebrity who will host the event and openly tackles a Skinclusive discourse and fashion in a “judgment-free beach.”
