‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ helped police solve missing Nintendo Switch case

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is indeed a popular Nintendo Switch game that took the global quarantine to its advantage, resulting in a surge in its player base.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has brought people together online, most especially during these lonely times in isolation. The game has also brought fans closer to their beloved Hollywood names, such as Elija Wood who messaged a fan about selling his turnips.

However, who would’ve of thought that Animal Crossing: New Horizons could actually help policemen solve a case of a lost Nintendo Switch.

The case of the lost Switch console

Per GameRant, police officers in Taiwan had a little help from a game installed in a Nintendo Switch, which happened to be Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The said console was brought in to a Taipei police station by a citizen who found the handheld console on an ATM.

As it turns out, the owner of the console accidentally left it while withdrawing money at an ATM. Thanks to the game’s “letter and gift sending system,” the police were able to send a message to one of the owner’s in-game friends.

This report was originally reported by a Taiwanese media outlet, CTS, but Comicbook was able to translate the message which reads:

“Hello. This is the police station at East Helping Rd, Daan branch, Taipei City. The Switch has been parted from its owner and was turned in. We do not have other means to contact the owner, so please help us and reach out on our behalf so they can recover it.”

The friend who received the message then relayed it to the owner of the console, which he was able to recover later on. This was quite the happening ending.

All thanks to the honesty of the passer-by who was kind enough to turn the console in. Also, to the ingenuity of the policemen to assure the console gets returned to its owner.

With the Nintendo Switch inventory allegedly facing shortage due to the pandemic, having to buy a new one will likely be a stressful struggle.

Other Animal Crossing: New Horizons news

Meanwhile, it looks like Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been knocked out from the number one spot in Nintendo Switch eShop, after following the release of Paper Mario: The Origami King.

As Forbes reports, Animal Crossing has been sitting on the top rank for months now since it released in March. It did lose its ranking for a short while when Minecraft Dungeons was made available on Switch.

Nevertheless, it did pop right back at the top. Here’s to hoping it’ll do the same with Paper Mario but that is still yet to be seen.
