Following an enduring tradition in the franchise, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is kickstarting the “bug off” event for the month of September.
The bug off event will challenge every New Horizons player on a hunt for bugs. But more than just catching unique critters, it also sees the undertaking rewarded. Which means getting insect-related furniture, trophies, clothing, and other unique rewards.
The main catalyst for the event is Flick who will have a recurring presence in the game. In fact, one of the many NPCs every New Horizons player should anticipate to see in the island from time to time.
Cool New Twist
You might be a veteran of the franchise to know what the bug off event is from a previous encounter. But if you still have not played New Horizons, then you might find it surprising to see how things have changed with the latest installment in the series.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the date in the calendar and the location of the player’s island play a critical role when the event will kick in. This means that if your island is located in the Northern hemisphere, the event by which you’ll encounter it would vary from the ones at the Southern hemisphere. Furthermore, you might also find it even more astonishing to know that the date you’d be experiencing it would also vary with fellow Northerners.
Different Location, Different Dates
That might sound confusing. But the idea generally is that the event happens on the third Saturday of the summer months. Particularly, you can expect for the same goings-on to take place on the following months, depending on where your atoll stands:
Northern Hemisphere
- June
- July
- August
- September
Southern Hemisphere
- November
- December
- January
- February
As we’re technically already on the third Saturday for September, it only meant that Flick should be making an appearance. If it’s within the hours between 9 AM and 6 PM in your local time, chance is good you would. Coincidentally, it also meant that everyone who does see him can participate in the occasion.
To join Flick’s bug-hunting, simply talk to him and pay him 500 bells to join. He will, then, give you three minutes to catch as many bugs as you can, which will see counting at the end of the timer.
Gather as Many Bugs as Possible
Each bug you catch gets you a single point. But you can get an extra two points if you manage to snag at least three, given the duration of the hunt.
Meant to be a repetitive event, you can expect to engage yourself in the bug hunt multiple times. As many times as necessary even to pool certain points that will either grant you trophies and let you redeem stuff with.
