Apple has denied a re-entry of the Parler app to its App Store, following the social media app’s huge controversy.
As per the latest reports, Apple has rejected the request of Parler to rejoin its App Store. In its reason, it mentioned that it wouldn’t allow “hateful, racist, discriminatory content” on its platform.
The app faced a ban from the internet two months ago following the US Capitol riots.
Can Parler make a comeback again?
Bloomberg’s newly released report gives a hint of what lies in the social media app’s future.
Here’s what it said:
“Parler, the controversial conservative social media app, was denied re-entry to Apple Inc.’s App Store recently after it was kicked off the platform in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, documents obtained by Bloomberg show.”
Parler faced a complete ban after found its involvement evidently in US Capitol riots. Many of its users posted hateful and violent content on the app. And some of them were among the many insurrectionists as well.
Moreover, in denying a re-entry to Parler, Apple mentioned that its new guidelines are insufficient because they don’t comply with the App Store rules.
It means that the app’s developers failed to impose strict “moderation capabilities to identify, prevent and filter this objectionable content proactively.”
So unless it complies, totally, with the App Store’s rules, it won’t return.
As of now, the service is not coming anytime sooner as far as the California tech giant’s platform is concerned.
Growing concerns over social media content
The increasing scenarios of hate, violence, and chaos in real-life have affected how social media works. In the past, they ignored such cases a lot. But now, the tech companies are taking strict action against them along with national authorities.
Most of the time, an internet portal’s involvement keeps emerging in a significant incident. Be it mob violence, or situation of riots, or even an attack on an individual.
Social media had become a new venue for planning negative agendas.
Lately, companies have considered a continuous outcry of people wanting to remove hateful speech and content. Thus, eliminating apps like Parler and other such platforms is a significant step in the right direction.
However, it doesn’t mean that things are improving.
It will take a lot of time for a complete overhaul and remove the online platforms’ toxicity. But a positive approach from renowned tech firms as well as the government authorities is a good sign.
