One of the primary suppliers of Apple, Quanta, was reportedly attacked by a ransomware group. The hackers belong to Russia.
The group, known as REvil, claims to have stolen key blueprints of the latest Apple products. REvil published a blog early on Tuesday on a dark web portal. In that, they claimed to have breached the computer network of Quanta.
Apple was targeted in a major ransom attack
While the California tech giant was busy presenting its new line of products in Spring Loaded, its supplier suffered significant damage.
Quanta is a Taiwan-based company that mainly manufactures Macbooks. It also produces goods for HP, Facebook Inc, and Google’s Alphabet.
The group that attacked Quanta is represented by a user on the cyber-crime forum XSS, by the name “Unknown.”
On Sunday, he announced, in a post, that the ransomware group was on the verge of declaring its “largest attack ever.”
As per Bloomberg, the post was in the Russian language.
On its “Happy Blog,” REvil also declared Apple supplier Quanta as its new victim early on Tuesday.
The supplier also acknowledged the attack. However, it didn’t mention the amount of data stolen.
“Quanta Computer’s information security team has worked with external IT experts in response to cyberattacks on a small number of Quanta servers,” the company said in its statement.
Speaking of the damage, the group claimed to have stolen the blueprints of Apple products like Mac, reported Bloomberg.
The company’s spokesperson declined to comment on the matter and other related questions.
