TrueDepth notch on the iPhones has spent more than three years now. However, its journey might come to an end with iPhone 15.
Trusted insider and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple will replace TrueDepth notch with a sub-display Face ID in iPhone 15.
The most infamous notch made its first appearance in 2017’s iPhone X.
iPhone 15 to have a new type of Face ID
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to introduce a fresh way of using Face ID in 2023’s iPhone models.
It will be underneath the device’s display.
Thus, users will be able to have a full-screen experience without any notch.
In a note to investors on Wednesday, Kuo mentioned that “under-display Face ID” will make its debut in 2023’s iPhone 15.
The note was related to another report saying that a 48MP camera lens might arrive in next year’s flagship variants.
Now coming back to the sub-display Face ID in iPhone 15.
It will be vital for all those individuals who use a gesture-based phone from Apple. Despite the best secure experience of unlocking their devices, at the moment, they face the problem of having to bring faces directly over the notch’s TrueDepth camera.
In short, they can’t unlock their iPhones from varying angles.
But a sub-display Face ID might fix this issue permanently because this will apply the functionality below the display.
It will be interesting to see how the California tech giant implements this new through-the-screen unlocking system.
Apple’s first 2021 event announced
Meanwhile, all eyes are set on the following week’s Tuesday.
April 20th will finally reveal the company’s first event of 2021, now titled Spring Reloaded.
The anticipated virtual session is rumored to unveil quite a product’s capacity, if not many of them.
Firstly, AirTags are the frontrunners when it comes to most-awaited reveals. The smart trackers have seen a long delay since last year.
Then, the fifth generation of iPad Pro is likely to arrive as well, with a Mini-LED 12.9-inch display.
Apple Pencil’s third generation, a new base variant of iPad, and sixth-gen iPad Mini are also expected to appear.
New Macs could also be introduced, along with an upgraded Apple TV.
Spring Reloaded will be the first big event before another major session, 2021 WWDC, makes its way in June. The latter will also take place in a virtual format, with pre-recorded footage for various product reveals.
