Apple finally makes the MacPro Radeon Pro W5700X MPX available during the configuration. The reasonably priced graphics are now available on the MacBook through the build-to-order process.
Apple finally made the step that MacBook users have been waiting for months after its release. The tech giant at long last made the MacPro graphics upgrade available.
The graphic upgrade comes in two options. During the configuration process, they may choose to add a single feature or go for the two graphic cards, both at reasonable prices.
Should a MacPro user desire to upgrade to a single Radeon Pro W5700X with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, then a $600 budget for the upgrade is enough. On the other hand, for users who are into the heavier graphic workload, they may take advantage of adding two Radeon Pro W5700Xs with 16GB of GDDR6 at $1600 each.
Rumors spread along with the graphic configuration that Apple could also offer the W5700X MPX module for standalone purchase. However, no exact figures were given should the said product be released in public for a MacPro upgrade.
News outlets gave W5700X MPX module a safe estimated price of $1000. The said amount was in consideration of the 580X individual pricing of $400 each.
Mac Pro Radeon Pro W5700X MPX advantage
MacPro users have been waiting for Apple’s decision to make the Mac Pro Radeon Pro W5700X MPX available for upgrade.
The quiet MPX module design is just one of the many reasons behind the users’ long anticipation for the affordable GPU upgrade. The modification also comes with the inclusion of four Thunderbolt 3 ports.
When it comes to heavy GPU capability, the Radeon Vega II comes on top of the list. It can endure up 14.1 teraflops. One setback with the device is its value. It comes at a hefty price of $,2400.
On a side note, the Mac Pro Radeon Pro W5700X MPX with 9.4 teraflops is reasonably priced at its performance, according to reports. It features the native HEVC decoding and is based on AMD’s current-generation Navi architecture.
Why go for the upgrade
When Apple launched MacPro months ago, the tech giant had the Radeon Pro 580X installed on it by default. Some Apple customers did not find the pre-installed graphic card enough for their heavy tasks requiring stronger GPU performance.
The GPU architecture on MacPro Radeon Pro W5700X MPX provides better results on video exports.
It is equipped with hardware-accelerated decoding that shortens the time in the Final Cut Pro X. This comes handy for 10-bit HEVC video distribution. Still, there is no confirmation if Apple will also allow the support of the third party cards on MacPro.
