With the latest revelations of Johnny Depp about Amber Heard, she may experience the same blacklisting her estranged husband endures. As one of the 34-year-old star’s known role is Mera in the Aquaman movie, will she be removed from Aquaman 2? Also, who will replace her if this happens?
Rumors have it that Warner Bros. fired Amber Heard from Aquaman 2, although nothing has been confirmed yet. This reportedly has something to do with her legal dispute against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, which now affects her work.
Who will replace Amber Heard?
According to The Digital Wise, Warner Bros. is allegedly looking for a new artist that will replace the model as Mera in the Aquaman movie sequel. There are now talks that the famed Game of Thrones star, Emilia Clarke, is the perfect choice to play the role of the Queen of Atlantis.
The 33-year-old Me Before You star already worked with Jason Momoa in the hit HBO television series. They were even on-screen partners, playing the roles of the husband-and-wife Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo.
So, if Emilia Clarke indeed joins Aquaman 2, she will surely have no problem working with the movie’s 40-year-old leading star. It is also not far to happens as there are a couple of online petitions, asking Warner Bros. to fire Amber heard from the film. So far, it both gains a lot of signatures, nearing its targets.
Aquaman 2’s details and release date
It is no surprise that Aquaman 2 is coming after the first movie generated $1.14 billion from the box office. With that kind of earning, Forbes reported that it had become the “biggest DC Comics superhero film of all time.”
The movie’s screenwriter, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, would be responsible for writing the sequel again. As early as now, it also has a set release date, which will be on Dec. 16, 2022. Aquaman 2’s release is a week away from Christmas Day, compared to the first film’s Dec. 15 release in 2018.
The talks about the movie sequel came early as the first film became a big hit. According to reports, Director James Wan is now in negotiation to return as the second movie’s producer. He may once again work with Peter Safran, but there’s no confirmation about it yet.
Aquaman 2’s December release is also a strategic move. As films hitting theaters on holiday are mostly getting attention, it will be an excellent opportunity for the film. It may also have a long run and gain a “big final multiplier,” which also happened in the original movie.
