Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a Viking epic that players are excited to get their hands on. As this is a game that fits into the current and next generation of consoles, players have a feeling that it will be more massive than the previous entries in the series.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a large game in terms of game time and content. However, some players believe that it’s too large for its own good, leading Ubisoft to believe that larger isn’t always better.
In response to an article speculating that the next game is to be the biggest Assassin’s Creed yet. Ubisoft Middle East’s head of communications hints that the next game will be shorter. In a tweet, Malek Teffaha says that they have listened to fan criticism about the length of the previous game, and they are hoping to rectify this in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
By comparison, Assassin’s Creed Origins can last somewhere between 30 to 80+ hours, depending on whether or not players are completionists. As for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the game could last somewhere between 40 to 125 hours in total. Other titles can last for as long as 60 hours.
It’s not just the content that’s large; it’s the explorable world that seems to take up most of the player’s time as well. In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, players got to explore one of the most extensive maps from the franchise, and it was a fantastic retelling of Ancient Greece.
To make the game feel longer, the world is segmented into different areas. Each comes with its own missions and collectibles to get. It’s a typical formula in games now, but it seems like players have grown sick of it.
Ubisoft is yet to reveal just how long or large the next game will be. It’s best option might be to give the game a run time that’s similar to older entries which are at 60 hours tops.
Moreover, it seems like Ubisoft should also shake up the formula with regards to how players explore the world. Adding collectibles and side missions might feel tedious now too.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will launch later this year. We’ve yet to see more of the game, but a new gameplay trailer is already out so players can get a glimpse of what to expect.
