ASUS ZenFone 7 series announced with improved flip cameras, 90Hz OLED panels

Share

The ASUS ZenFone 7 series has upped the ante of its predecessor’s flip-up camera system, relative to its configuration and mechanism.

Like clockwork, the ASUS ZenFone 7 series has officially arrived. And the phones under the lineup are packing some serious heat.

Flip is above and beyond

Let’s address the elephant in the room first: Yes, ASUS’ newest flagship series had improved what made the ZenFone 6 quite a commodity when it debuted. The lineup’s flip-up camera now has a new telephoto camera, and its mechanism has also been boosted.

Accordingly, the accompanying mechanism already uses a smaller motor, which has more torque than ever. Meanwhile, the connection to the main body has been improved and is now rated for 100 flips a day for five years straight.

Additionally, ASUS claimed that when opened, the flipping mechanism can withstand 35kg of weight.

New telephoto lens

Now, onto the new telephoto lens. The said auxiliary sensor features an 80mm module, which indicates that it is capable of 3x optical zoom. On the other hand, the same module on the Pro variant trumps it sibling’s a little better with the inclusion of an OIS.

The rest is essentially the same. Both the ASUS ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro have a 64-megapixel primary wide sensor, with 8MP telephoto and 12MO ultrawide lenses. These motorized cameras can also be used for selfies.

Qualcomm’s premier chipsets in the fold

Another difference between the ASUS ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro can be found in the hardware department. The former is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chip, while the Pro variant is fueled by a slightly more efficient Snapdragon 865+ chip.

The vanilla ZenFone 7 is also coupled with 6GB/8GB of RAM tiers and 128GB of expandable UFS 3.1 storage; the ZenFone 7 Pro settles with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Both devices are also listed with a 5,000mAh battery, with support for 30W fast wired charging.

Note that the ZenFone 6 only features 18W of fast charging when it was launched.

Improved displays and a lot more

Both phones employ a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED panel in the display section, with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. Their displays also work on a high 90Hz refresh rate, 200Hz touch sampling rate, 700 nits of typical brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass 6. They are also HDR10+-compliant and have Always-On display mode.

Other key features of the phones include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C, and side-mounted fingerprint reader.

The ZenFone 7 (6GB/128GB variant) and ZenFone 7 Pro (8GB/256GB) are priced at NT$ 21,990 and NT$ 27,990, respectively. They are both scheduled to be released globally on September 1.
