The Taiwanese tech giant Asus is reportedly going to release two flagship devices this July—the Zenfone 7 and the ROG Phone 3.
A local Taiwanese publication called Commercial Times hinted at the release of these two highly anticipated Asus flagships.
The report was actually a financial report about Asus’ first-quarter earnings. It narrates on the current issue where the “mobile phone business” is “still losing money” considering the ongoing pandemic, wherein purchases are mostly limited to essential needs.
However, Co-CEO Xu Xianyue reportedly said that “he goal of turning positive after 2021 has not changed.” The company’s saving grace will accordingly be ZenFone 7 and ROG Phone 3.
Targeted June or July release
Per the report, the aforementioned mobile devices will be “published” sometime around the end of the second quarter or earlier in the third quarter. This means we are looking at either a June or July 2020.
Nevertheless, it is predicted that the “new-generation e-sports mobile phone” sales, the ROG Phone 3, will gain “at least 30% or 50% growth” more compared to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 2.
This could be due to the surprise in the eSports trend, with Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile already entering the eSport limelight. Not to mention League of Legends is also set to release its mobile gaming app sometime this year.
Therefore, the demand for a competitive gaming phone will be favorable to the release of ROG Phone 3, despite the current global situation.
What we know so far about ROG Phone 3 and Zenfone 7
Unlike other devices, the leaks for the two upcoming Asus flagships are kept to the minimum. Micky News did previously report that the ROG Phone 3 will likely carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor.
GSM Arena‘s report further strengthens this probability after its Geekbench result listing allegedly emerged online. Furthermore, the recent Wi-Fi certification was also spotted, noting that the gaming phone is in its “final stages of the development phase.”
Meanwhile, Zenfone 7 is set to be an “all-rounded flagship,” as expected. With no leaks to go about, what many tech enthusiasts are expecting is a step-up from the last year’s model specs.
The media outlet further highlights that the upcoming release should be proven to be true, is quite timely as its current predecessors are already in dire need of an update. Readers should note that the Asus Zenfone 6 (Asus 6Z) launched in May 2019, while the ROG Phone 2 was released in September 2019.
Will the upcoming flagships rally despite the pandemic? We’ll find out soon! Stay tuned for more updates!
