Atelier Ryza is finally getting a sequel with Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and The Secret Fairy and Koei Tecmo announced the release to be on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The announcement comes from the recently-held Tokyo Game Show Livestream, which highlights the upcoming follow-up to viewers. Looking at it, the game appears to be getting a darker twist than what audiences were given with the first Atelier Ryza game, which is indeed both mystifying and exciting.
To see an initial Japan release, Atelier Ryza 2 will first hit the Japanese market this holiday season. Likely, in time with or following the release of the PlayStation 5 in the same commercial space.
Free upgrade
Players who are still not keen on jumping to the bandwagon, however, can stick with the PS4 version. However, this comes at the expense of losing on cutting-edge features that are inherent in the more advanced console. The PlayStation 4, despite all its strengths, is already outdated hardware by that point.
Yet, another option that will see consumers getting a free upgrade down the road, should they choose to finally make the leap to next-gen gaming with PS5. The free upgrade applies to both physical or digital owners of the game post-launch.
PC release
While Sony home console users will experience KT Games’ latest take on RPG, even PC users will share the same later on. This idea comes with the game’s slated Steam release in early 2021.
With PC being capable of delivering a superior experience—even over next-generation platforms—it’s likely that the PS5 version of the game is derived from it. This is merely speculation but is hardly a stray from reality considering the possibility. If true, early adopters of the game should expect 4K or higher-than-4K resolution support and better performance than the PS4.
Nintendo Switch launch
Making for another leap to a different platform, the sequel to Atelier Ryza will also arrive in the Switch. Like the case with the PS4 version, however, players would be in touch with reality to not expect any advanced features with the release.
That is considering the inherent limitations of the Switch, which is conspicuously the weakest of all supported platforms. Which means missing out on the snappy or absent loading times or the fancier visuals of raytracing and DLSS.
To be more specific, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and The Secret Fairy will release in Japan on Dec. 3, 2020, on PS4, PS5, and the Switch. It will subsequently see Steam release in early 2021, which will also be succeeded by the game’s Western release.
