A new report now claims that Apple will start production on the iPhone 12 sometime next month to accommodate an October release.
Earlier reports claim that Apple will launch the iPhone 12 in September. However, this report shows that all four models of Apple’s flagship will launch in October instead.
With this production update also comes a piece of crucial information regarding the 5G capabilities of the iPhone 12. Only the Pro models will feature the sub-6GHz and the mmWave 5G.
Devices that are sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G capable will have the strongest and fastest Internet connection. The mmWave 5G alone allows for 1 gigabyte per second download speed.
This means that not all four models will have the same 5G capabilities. The other iPhone 12 models will only have the sub-6GHz 5G capability. However, it is also important to note that the mmWave 5G has its limitations. For one, devices that use this must be near 5G nodes or, at the very least, has a direct line of sight to these nodes.
But as more and more cities and telecommunication companies integrate 5G technologies, these limitations may soon be non-existent.
While Apple’s closest rival, Samsung, has long made the jump to 5G, this is a move that the tech giant has only made recently. 5G is the next step in connectivity, and as the world finally acknowledges its revolutionary qualities, it is not something Apple wants to miss out on.
Now, it looks like Apple is doing everything to streamline its jump to 5G. Making a device 5G capable requires a few extra components. A new modem, as well as a new antenna system, is needed to support 5G. Adding these components in an already well-rounded design could be difficult. Fortunately, Apple already found a solution by moving the sim card slot.
The sim card slot will be now be located on the left side of the iPhone just underneath the volume buttons. The sim card slot’s former location will now house the 5G AiP (antenna in package).
Apple made this internal design change so that the battery life of the upcoming iPhone 12 will not be compromised.
