The Kingdom of Belgium faces an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
Most of the countries are now facing a second wave of COVID-19 infections. But the waffle country, Belgium, is facing a huge and uncontrollable spike in its cases daily.
Earlier in August, United Kingdom’s Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, applauded the nation on the good handling of its second wave COVID-19 cases. As time progressed, it has changed into a red zone with an increasing number of positive cases.
The federal minister Frank Vandenbroucke described it as the worst and the most dangerous in the whole of Europe.
From May leading to August, the country did not see any major spike in the number of cases, but starting from September, it surpassed its initial count.
To radically improve the conditions
While on broadcast with RTL, the Federal Minister described that Belgians need to behave radically to the situations. He further stated that the southern region, Francophone Wallonia, and the country’s capital city, Brussels, are amongst the worst affected.
While addressing the public, the minister said that they have to protect themselves and their loved ones from contamination.
He further expressed his concern by stating that if the number of hospitalizations increases because of new COVID-19 cases, the setup will become perilous.
With the ease of social restrictions and reopening of educational institutions and offices, the country has reported a 79% increase within a week’s difference.
By last week, the nation passed 10,000 cases in a single day. It was the first since the beginning of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Belgium currently has 222,253 reported cases and more than 10,000 deaths registered.
New distancing and rectifying the situation
In light of the increasing COVID-19 cases, the government imposed new restrictions starting from Monday. These include having only one close contact outside the household. Also, only four guests can be invited but changeable every two weeks.
While visiting, social distancing rules should be followed.
And for the next four weeks, restaurants and bars will be closed, but takeaways will be available. The sale of alcohol will be banned after 8 PM. The city will also be under a curfew from midnight to 5 AM.
The new restrictions stated that people should wear masks and respect the social distancing rules. The minister encouraged the citizens by saying that the virus is nobody’s fault, and no one shouldn’t feel guilty about it.
