Ben Affleck shared his thoughts about Robert Pattinson taking over the role of the caped superhero in The Batman.
Ben Affleck donned the Batman costume three times, four if Justice League 2 would be released. However, he decided to step back from the franchise, and the Twilight actor, Robert Pattinson, is next in line to play the iconic superhero role.
Ben Affleck commented on Robert Pattinson as next Batman
Ben Affleck was among the few actors who had the chance to play the caped crusader on the big screen.
When he promoted his film The Way Back, Affleck made a slight comment about Robert Pattinson by saying that he is a “great” actor. Affleck also added that he feels the actor will do an amazing job playing the character.
“I think Robert’s a great actor, he is going to do great. The movie deserves to be made by someone whose dying to do it and cannot wait, and that was not me at the time, so I moved on,” Affleck explained.
Affleck left Batman for personal reasons
Initially, there were rumors that Ben Affleck left the franchise due to creative differences. However, in the interview, he confessed that he left due to personal reasons.
“I showed somebody ‘The Batman’ script. They said, ‘I think the script is good,” Affleck recalled.
“I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again.”
Justice League had a troubled production history. Meanwhile, Affleck has been struggling with alcoholism. The production issue may have affected his drinking problems and diminished his interest in the role.
In an interview with USA Today in 2017, Affleck confessed that superhero movies like Batman tend to get an extra level of attention compared to other films. He admitted that there was too much pressure and he wouldn’t do it unless he is confident with himself.
“I understand and embrace that. That’s part of the pressure that comes with doing it. That’s why I am not going to do it, unless I really feel confident about it,” Affleck said.

Ben Affleck supports Robert Pattinson’s The Batman
In January 2019, Deadline confirmed that Ben Affleck had passed the torch to the next generation of Bruce Wayne. During the announcement, Affleck’s effort for The Batman was recognized.
However, the actor reportedly knew that he wasn’t the right fit for the said version. Thus, the search for the new Dark Knight started and it eventually named Robert Pattinson as the newest Caped Crusader.
Despite skipping the role for The Batman, Affleck remains supportive of the upcoming superhero flick.
“Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life,” Affleck wrote on Twitter.
