Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid remain the pillars for the future of the Philadelphia 76ers, according to GM Elton Brand.
The Philadelphia 76ers are back to square one. They had The Process, and now they’re back into the process of remaking their team. The beating they received from the Boston Celtics is embarrassing. Joel Embiid himself said that there is no such thing as a rivalry between the two teams.
Embiid knows this, and so does the entire league. As a result, they will have to regroup and rethink their actions moving forward. The first domino has fallen. Head coach Brett Brown has just been booted out of from the bench. As far as Elton Brand is concerned, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons are untouchable.
Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons will continue as the core
The Embiid and Simmons hype train has long taken off even before both players were healthy. Ben Simmons showed glimpses of Magic Johnson except that the young point guard can’t shoot. Other than that, his game is fully developed to instantly make the team a championship contender.
Joel Embiid, on the other hand, despite starting with basketball late in his life, showed lightning-fast development. Unfortunately, he was just set back by early injuries, which pushed his debut to a later time.
Both these players were the core of The Process. It was a long seven-year journey only to crumble at the hands of the Celtics for two straight years. Be that as it may, Elton Brand remains upbeat about the 76ers future.
Embiid and Simmons are currently untouchable. However, all the rest of the team will be shaken up. This even includes the front office build.
Possible landing spots for Embiid if plans change
Just like the postponements of the games today in the bubble, the scenario in the league changes day by day. As such, Embiid and Simmons being off the table can still change. Naturally, Elton Brand wouldn’t turn down a chance to make his team even better beyond Embiid.
For now, the Golden State Warriors look to be a big suitor for the big man. The Warriors hold the second pick during Draft Night, and they can immediately flip him to the Sixers. Embiid is a versatile big man, so he would fit in the Warriors system easily. However, the asking price of the 76ers will be hefty.
It will be up to the Warriors’ front office to determine as to how much they want to go back into full contention. If they do, they just might let go of one of their big three core players of Curry, Thompson, and Green.
