Bethesda and Id Software has now revealed Quake Remastered, with the 1996 game coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, the Switch, and Playstation.
News of Quake Remastered leaked out ahead of the formal announcement for Quake at Home. The leak is all thanks to a listing on the Playstation Store, revealing the existence of the title. Fans of the franchise are looking forward to the game.
Quake defined modern FPS genre
Quake is one of the pillars of modern gaming, being one of the most quintessential games of all time. It spawned countless classic games and even became the title that forced the gaming industry to evolve with hardware acceleration.

Now, one of the most influential games of all time received a modern remaster. This version is visually enhanced and playable up to a 4K resolution. It also has wide resolution support, making it almost painless to run in modern systems.
Players can also expect better models and more dynamic lighting that take advantage of current technology. It will also feature other details like anti-aliasing and depth of field, which didn’t exist in its heyday.
As for the soundtrack, the game will have the original tracks, including a new track composed by Trent Reznor. It will come with its original expansions, The Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity.
New Quake remaster to include crossplay, 8-player PVP
Quake Remastered is not only coming as a repackage of the old title. The game is also coming with a some brand new content and features for the title.
For starters, there are two extra expansions from by the MachineGames team. These include Dimension of the Past and the brand new Dimension of the Machine.
The remaster will also have crossplay across several platforms and multiplayer options. With multiplayer, gamers can go for a 4-player online coop for the campaign. There’s also the classic split-screen coop, and 8-player PVP.
“The legendary dark fantasy FPS that revolutionized the genre is enhanced and now on modern platforms!” says Bethesda on their website. “Previous owners of Quake on Steam or Bethesda Launcher will automatically receive the new version with a free download. It may already be updated by the time you read this!
“Additionally, if you didn’t own Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity on Steam, you will also be granted access to the original versions of those.”
Quake Remastered is available on almost all platforms. For the Playstation 5, the game is still pending release but it’s playable via backwards compatibility.
