Over the weekend, a paparazzi captured a photo of Billie Eilish wearing only a tank top and shorts while walking in Los Angeles.
Though her style was new to netizens, her body seemingly invited more comments that she ended up facing body shaming.
Previously, the young singer already admitted that she started wearing baggy clothes since she hated her body. However, body shaming is too much.
Soon after her pictures went viral, Eilish shared multiple videos that tackle how people should start normalizing real bodies.
On her Instagram Story, Eilish reposted Chizi Duru’s TikTok clip.
“Y’all gotta start normalizing real bodies, okay? Not everybody has a wagon behind them, okay? Guts are normal; they’re normal. Boobs sag, especially after breastfeeding. Instagram isn’t real,” Duru said in the clip.
In October 2019, she sat for an interview with ELLE. She talked about the people who complimented her for “being an example” on how young girls should dress.
But during the same interview, she clarified that only dresses in baggy clothes because of society’s problem. Furthermore, it is other people’s fault that they keep on sexualizing young women.
“It makes me mad. I have to wear a big shirt for you not to feel uncomfortable about my boobs!” she said. “My boobs were trending on Twitter! At number one! What is that?! Every outlet wrote about my boobs!”
Eilish then recalled how her breasts have caused her to be body-shamed in the past. This then caused her to cover them using extra-large shirts.
However, as she gets older, she said that people should expect that she will change her style one day.
“I’m gonna be a woman. I wanna show my body,” she said. “What if I wanna make a video where I wanna look desirable? Not a porno! But I know it would be a huge thing,” Eilish said.
Amid the criticisms and shaming she received, her fans continuously supported and defended her.
Meanwhile, others shared again the short film she recorded titled, Not My Responsibility. The video talks about sexism and body-shaming.
