Billy Porter paused production work on the Pose season 3 episode he is set to direct.
Billy Porter just confirmed he will suspend filming for Pose season 3 to protect the show’s cast and crew. This will include an episode in the series that he was scheduled to direct.
Pose just started its third week of filming for its upcoming season when production was suspended. The series will continue principal photography as soon as Disney Television Studios announces resumption of work.
Porter plays Pray Tell on the Ryan Murphy-produced drama, which has received critical acclaim. Last year, he received an Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series because of his work on the show.
Billy Porter booked for Pose directing gig
Last year, FX announced that star Billy Porter will direct a Pose season 3 episode. Reports say there is no information yet on which episode the Emmy winner will take on.
Porter will not be coming into the director’s chair with inexperience. He has an extensive resume as a theater director for 20 years. Among his theater directing credits include an off-Broadway production of “HAM: A Musical Memoir.”
Set in early 1990s New York, Pose takes an insider look at the underground ball culture in the city. Other members of the show’s cast include Mj Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, and Ryan Jamaal Swain.

Pose joins shows affected by COVID-19
Pose is not the only award-winning show affected by the COVID-19 lockdown. Several other shows rushing to finish their series for a summer release also had to postpone production.
According to a report, the production suspension of Disney Television Studios affects shows under companies in the Disney umbrella. This includes ABC’s American Housewife and USA Network’s Queen of the South.
Broadcast shows like Empire and The Resident will suffer the most because of the filming suspension. Unlike cable shows, TV series from broadcast networks adhere to tight production schedules to finish seasons that are already airing.
What to look forward to in Pose season 3
Based on the set photos posted on social media, most of the show’s diverse cast will return. Series creator Janet Mock will reportedly direct the premiere episode, which is titled On the Run. Ryan Murphy recently cast Jeremy Pope for the upcoming season of Pose.
Also, the Tony-nominated actor impressed the star producer after his stint on Murphy’s upcoming Netflix limited series, Hollywood. Meanwhile, Pose season 3 will air on FX later this year.
