Biz Markie became the latest member of the hip-hop industry to passed away this year.
The creator of the hit song Just a Friend, rapper Biz Markie, has died at the age of 57.
Markie’s representative confirmed to Fox News this week about the rapper’s passing. According to Jenni Izumi, the rapper died peacefully with his wife Tara by his side.
“We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time,” she said, per Fox News. “Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years.”
She also noted that Markie survived his wife and many family members. In the end, Izumi remembered him as someone with a vibrant personality.
Following the heartbreaking announcement, the representative asked everyone to give the family privacy as they mourn.
Biz Markie’s Cause of Death
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases, diabetes makes a person’s blood sugar too high. Patients with diabetes can develop heart problems, kidney diseases, eye problems, nerve damage, and stroke, among others.
It remains unknown what specific symptom claimed his life. However, the news outlet detailed that Markie died in a hospital near Baltimore.
The rapper, reportedly, admitted himself in a healthcare facility several weeks last summer. During that time, his representatives said he was being treated for a serious illness. But they also clarified it was not COVID-related.
For what it’s worth, though, it reported at that time that Markie’s type II diabetes led him to be admitted. His exact condition at that time was unclear. There were even rumors about him falling into a coma.
Following the emergence of the rumors, a representative dismissed the claims about Markie’s health.
“The news of Biz Markie’s passing is not true,” his representative said. “Biz is still under medical care, surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best healthcare possible.”
Meanwhile, his fans paid him a heartwarming tribute and left heartfelt comments for him.
One fan said, “Oh man, I liked him. The only rapper who I could match note for note.”
Another added, “He is a bit of an anomaly, he didn’t have a criminal record, he was never shot, he never shot anyone and he worked hard his whole life. All around good guy. Sad day.”
