There is no certainty regarding the future of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror because of the current pandemic.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the whole world is struggling. Thousands of lives are lost every day, and every industry is affected on a large scale. However, it appears that additional bad news has arrived, especially for Black Mirror fans.
Charlie Brooker is not writing Black Mirror season 6
Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker believes the world could use a bleakness break. He revealed that he’s not currently working on writing season 6 of Black Mirror. This is because he thinks that humanity has already been thrown into a nightmarish dystopia like the ones portrayed in his series.
In a statement, the writer mentioned,
“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on any of those Black Mirror episodes.”
From a wider perspective, this seems to be the best thing to do because the world today already looks very much like an episode of Black Mirror.
Just like the show, humanity is under the global epidemic, and there is compulsory containment in many countries. Additionally, social interactions are reduced to a minimum and controlled by gestures barriers.
Optimism is Charlie Brooker’s priority
What Charlie Brooker wishes at present are fun and amusement. He desires to enable his fans and viewers to find the urge to smile and be optimistic. He stated,
“I’ve been busy, doing things. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”
During this time, other creators are also riding on the bandwagon of the present world to create new series that could make the viewers laugh.
Nevertheless, if Brooker wills for the anthology series Black Mirror to pivot into comedy, it is certainly possible. The series has slowly become more heartfelt, with episodes such as San Junipero and Hang the DJ, so perhaps a more humorous episode could work.
