With only a month to go before Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is released, it’s already getting the thumbs up from Twitch star Shroud.
Black Ops Cold War is still in its alpha testing phase but Michael “shroud” Grzesiek is already impressed. The 26-year-old was quick to express his opinion saying that the upcoming first-person shooter is an improvement from Modern Warfare.
Black Ops Cold War and the inconsistency in Call of Duty titles
As far as consistency goes, Call of Duty is one of the most consistent franchises out there when it comes to releasing titles. In fact, it is one of the few franchises that release a game each year. However, quantity doesn’t always mean quality.
Oftentimes, it is a hit or miss with Call of Duty games and this is probably because Activision rotates between developers each time they release a new game. Infinity Ward was responsible for developing 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. But the upcoming Black Ops Cold War has Treyarch in the lead.
Because of the ever-changing developers, most Call of Duty titles feel different from one another. Infinity Ward has definitely set the bar high for Treyarch considering the success of Modern Warfare and its battle royale mode, Warzone.
But if it’s up to Shroud, Black Ops Cold War is already looking significantly better.
Simplicity is beauty
Shroud is no stranger to first-person shooter games. In fact, the former pro-Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player is known as one of the best FPS players out there. Considering the fact he also spent a significant amount of time playing Modern Warfare, his opinion on the matter could have more bearing.
"It looks significantly better than Modern Warfare."

The 26-year-old streamer, who recently returned to the Twitch streaming service last month, was quick to praise the game for its simplicity.
Using quite the colorful language in his compliments, Shroud notes how nice and vibrant the colors were and how the game has more of an arcade-y kind of fun. He quips that it already looks better than Modern Warfare.
But what struck with him most is the simplicity of the game’s mechanics.
“Sniping looks cool, this looks good, I like this! This looks so simple man, I like it, very simple. Reloads are so simple. Holy s**t you can slide! He was side-sliding, that’s cool – he was sliding in one direction while looking at another. The sliding is f***ing sick! The sliding is good! I like that,” Shroud says in his stream.
Not everyone agrees
While Shroud may have leaned positively towards the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, his opinions are still just based on what he has seen during the alpha testing phase. Testing on the PC won’t be available until the beta phase starts on October 15.
Many others think that a November release is too early for Treyarch. In fact, a report published by Forbes claims that Activision is releasing the game a year too early. The report claims that Black Ops Cold War feels like a downgrade in terms of sound design, gunplay, animations, and the gameplay itself.
Not only that, but it is also a question as to how the new game would incorporate the Warzone battle royale mode since its gameplay is the same as Modern Warfare.
Black Ops Cold War is set to be released on November 13, 2020.
