Marvel has yet to publicly confirm plans to bring back Daredevil’s character following the Netflix series cancellation. Amid the buzz and speculations, one unexpected Black Widow sequel might finally see the character’s addition to the MCU.
We Got This Covered reported that Matt Murdoch/Daredevil will get a big role in the solo movie sequel starring Scarlet Johansson. However, Johansson’s Natasha/Black Widow will not be the central sequel character but Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).
Granted, the movie is still several years away in development, but the basic plot will reportedly involve Daredevil interacting with Yelena. Natasha will also be in the film through flashback scenes to detail Daredevil’s past acquaintance with the Russian operative. The scenes with Yelena, however, will lay the groundwork for the next Black Widow movies with Pugh in the MCU franchise.
This isn’t the first time rumors of a Black Widow sequel with Daredevil came up. The Lords of the Longbox also discussed the sequel plans on their YouTube show in 2019. Speculations were that the Infinity Stones would figure in the “resurrection” of the character, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Avengers: Endgame.
Black Widow and Daredevil have such a complicated history in the comic books. They met when Natasha was living in New York as a former Russian spy before she moved to San Franciso and then joined the Avengers.
Meanwhile, the first and highly-anticipated Black Widow solo movie is set to premiere on the big screen on Nov. 6, 2020, to mark the beginning of MCU’s Phase Four. The movie originally had a May premiere, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed back its release.
This solo production will bring new insights into the origins of one of the founding members of the Avengers. Groomed in the KGB, Natasha Romanova escapes her former life after the breakdown of the U.S.S.R., and she ends up working as a freelancer in New York. Somehow, powerful forces find her and attempt to kill her. So, Natasha has to fight back and deal with her life as a former Russian spy if she wants to start anew.
Aside from Johansson and Pugh, Black Widow also stars David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/ Red Guardian) O-T Fagbenle (Rick Mason), Ray Winstone (Dreykov), and Rachel Weisz (Melina Vostokoff). Cate Shortland directed the film from Eric Pearson’s screenplay.
