Marvel Studios just pushed its slate further. Disney delayed the theatrical release of Black Widow until next year.
Sadly, the delay of the awaited Black Widow also means that all MCU fans will have to keep waiting until May 7, 2021—or beyond, if the pandemic prevails further.
Other Marvel movies, which were to follow after Black Widow, have been pushed further to 2021. The Eternals are now getting a November 7th release date compared to the previously announced schedule of February 12.
At the same time, Shang Chi will be arriving on July 9 instead of its original release date of May 7, 2021.
Apart from MCU films, Disney’s other release, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, is also postponed and scheduled for a release on December 10, 2021.
Financial problems for traditional theaters
It’s a tough time and big crisis, especially for the theater owners who rely on big productions and blockbusters to make huge profits. During August, films like Tenet and New Mutants did come out. However, it is only in limited capacities, box-office statistics for them were disappointing.
The impact of the pandemic is such that any expected release on the big screen is not yet possible.
Black Widow and the future of Phase Four amid Coronavirus
The situation for Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios is difficult at this point because there were big announcements made during the ‘San Diego Comic-Con’ in 2019.
And right now, handling all the projects related to those announcements might turn out pretty bad.
Fans are excited and impatient ever since Disney acquired the Fox company last year.
Anticipated and officially revealed projects like X-Men, Fantastic Four, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Widow, Loki, She-Hulk, Miss Marvel, and Blade are yet to come out. They are either stuck in a delay or early pre-production stages.
On the other hand, Wanda-Vision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier are likely to arrive on Disney Plus by this December.
If not Black Widow, then the release of these two titles will surely make the fans happy.
Black Widow will kick-start phase four for the next epic saga in the billion-dollar franchise. Many of the moviegoers, however, are keen to know how it will do that. It’s because Scarlett Johansson’s character is already dead in the present MCU timeline.
Speaking of the cast of the film, it also stars Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, actor David Harbour, and O.T. Fagbenle in important roles.
