BLACKPINK recently released their latest collaboration with Selena Gomez.
As part of their three-part comeback, BLACKPINK released their latest track, Ice Cream. The newest single from the K-pop group is a collaboration with Selena Gomez, co-written by Ariana Grande.
The general reception over the new single has remained “mixed.” Nevertheless, it has since allowed the all-female K-pop group to achieve new heights in the music industry.
“Ice Cream” broke new records on YouTube
BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez teased the collaboration for weeks. This added the hype over Ice Cream causing many to tune in during the premiere.
The all-female artists broke a new record on YouTube, according to So Mag News. With their latest work, they had over 10 million views in just 12 hours. This reportedly makes them the “fastest” girl group K-pop single to reach the figures.
BLACKPINK surpasses BTS in the United Kingdom
BLACKPINK and BTS have continued to become the most popular and strongest K-pop groups across the globe. Earlier in August, the two South Korean acts tied for the K-pop group with most hits on U.K.’s Singles Chart, according to Forbes.
Reports recalled that the all-male K-pop group released a new single on August 21. They premiered Dynamite ahead of their second comeback album for 2020.
Upon the release, BTS made it to the U.K.’s Top 40 Hits as their all-English single placed at the third spot. They tied with the all-female K-pop group having four singles on the same chart.
A week later, though, BLACKPINK premiered Ice Cream. Once again, they made it into the same chart in the United Kingdom, making them the South Korean act with the most hits on the Singles Chart.
Their five hits in the U.K. charts
BLACKPINK first made it into the Top 40 Hits when they released Kiss and Make Up in 2018. It is a collaboration with Dua Lipa, who has also broken several records in several charts. The single reached the 36th spot, allowing them to make history.
The following year, they premiered Kill This Love and rose to the 33rd place. But, their time in the U.K. charts did not end here as their recent collaboration with Lady Gaga, Sour Candy topped in the country, breaking into the 17th spot.
BLACKPINK then released their pre-release single from The Album, How You Like That, in June. They debuted at 20th place on the same chart. Ice Cream shortly followed the streak as it entered the 39th spot earlier this month.
