BLACKPINK is Variety’s ‘Group of the Year’ at the ‘Hitmakers 2020’

BLACKPINK is the first K-pop girl group named Group of the Year, chosen by Variety at the Hitmakers 2020.

Variety picked BLACKPINK as the Group of the Year among the list of names released for its Hitmakers 2020 on December 4.

Hitmakers is a big event; it is an awarding ceremony that chooses singer-songwriter, composer, producer, and label who made contributions to produce the most popular song of the year.

BLACKPINK is on top among A-list artists

BLACKPINK stood side-by-side with A-list artists such as J Balvin, Harry Styles, Lewis Capaldi, and Lil Baby in the category.

But despite the many big names vying for the title, the girl group still managed to take home the trophy.

The girl group expressed their gratitude to everyone, especially to the BLINKS, for supporting them all the way.

They said that it wouldn’t be possible without everyone who believed and supported them.

Variety witnessed the achievements of BLACKPINK

2020 is indeed a memorable year for the girl group. They released their first full album and earned many encouraging messages for everyone.

Variety has noticed BLACKPINK’s mesmerizing accomplishments this year. They wrote that after the quartet became the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella, they collaborated with some A-list artists.

Among the big names that the quartet collaborated with are Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga with Sour Candy from Chromatica album.

Moreover, the girl group’s newest music video, How You Like That, reached 86.3 million views in just 24 hours on YouTube. The achieved digits of their track set a record when it debuted in June.

The quartet’s The Album success

Variety focused on BLACKPINK’s first regular album, THE ALBUM. It is the eight-song collection which topped the iTunes chart in 57 regions worldwide. This feat made BLACKPINK the first million-selling K-pop girl group.

“…Blackpink the first-ever million-selling K-pop girl group — a quarter of those album sales coming from the U.S.,” wrote Variety.

The girls’ collaboration with Gomez with Ice Cream found a welcoming home on Top 40 radio. It accumulated more than 40,000 spins since its release in August.

As revealed recently, BLACKPINK will be having a live-streamed concert on YouTube. The concert is titled YG PALM STAGE- 2020 BLACKPINK: THE SHOW. And at 2 P.M. on December 27 (EST), the most awaited digital concert will occur.
