BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga have recently released their new and first collaboration, ‘Sour Candy.’
“Blinks” (BLACKPINK fans) have waited over a year for the K-pop group’s newest single. While it was, indeed, a long wait, the case is different for Lady Gaga’s followers.
Four years have already passed since the ‘Born This Way’ songstress last released an album. Although her singles from A Star Is Born may count, ‘Joanne’ is her last official album prior to her 2020 album, ‘Chromatica.’
This is why it is not surprising why their first and latest collaboration, ‘Sour Candy,’ has stirred emotions among fans and followers.
BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga’s first collaboration
BLACKPINK has had only a few collaborations with artists outside Korea. Before Lady Gaga, their most recent was with Dua Lipa for ‘Kiss and Make Up.’ This is also likely the reason why excitement among Blinks has become more apparent upon learning the project with the ‘Million Reasons’ singer.
‘Sour Candy,’ as stated, is the first collaboration between BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga. It remains unclear, though, if this is going to be the last.
On Thursday, the artists dropped the track ahead of the release of ‘Chromatica,’ according to the Vulture. As explained, the early release came after the “leak spread” on various social media platforms, especially on Twitter.
‘Sour Candy’ smashes existing streaming records
Upon the release on Thursday, BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga’s ‘Sour Candy’ reportedly “shattered” streaming records, as per Forbes. It “debuted” on Spotify at the sixth spot in the Global streams and 12th in the United States with over 3.67 million and 757,000 streams, respectively.
The reports then added that the release “granted” the K-pop group the “biggest debut” for a single track in the history of Spotify. Not to mention, ‘Sour Candy’ had reportedly reached the top spot on iTunes in 52 countries.
Despite its release without an official music video, the audio-video reportedly “performed exceptionally” on YouTube. As stated, it reached over 21.8 million views within its first 24 hours.
The figures also reportedly allowed BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga to break the YouTube record for the “biggest debut” for an all-female collaboration. Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey’s ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’ formerly held the record on the platform, the reports added.
‘Chromatica’ featured other collaborations
‘Chromatica‘ dropped on several platforms on Friday. Aside from Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo, Lady Gaga also reportedly collaborated with other artists for her newest album. Some of the artists include Ariana Grande and Elton John.
As for BLACKPINK, reports noted that their new album is set for a June release. ‘Sour Candy’ is reportedly one of the singles in it.
