BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to reach Billboard’s “On-Demand Streaming” chart.
After more than a year of waiting, BLACKPINK has now returned, and BLINKS are in it for a sweet treat. Prior to their official “comeback” through their latest single, ‘How You Like That,’ they, along with Lady Gaga, released ‘Sour Candy.’
With the shocking and unusual collaboration, the artists have reportedly broken several records and charts. It is not surprising, though, as both the K-pop girl group and the A Star Is Born songstress has repeatedly topped the charts. But, ‘Sour Candy’ has surpassed their priors, especially on the K-pop’s group part.
BLACKPINK “broke barriers” on Billboard
Since their emergence on the K-pop scene, BLACKPINK has repeatedly broken records and beaten other popular K-pop groups, including BTS. This time, however, they have broken “barriers” on Billboard, according to Forbes. As explained, only a few South Korean artists, both groups and solos, have topped the Billboard’s “On-Demand Streaming Songs” chart.
But, in the case of Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo, and their latest collaboration with Lady Gaga, they have reportedly become the first-ever K-pop girl group to reach the chart. Reports then explained that prior to them, BTS and Pinkfong were the only South Korean artists who made into the Top 40. This then reportedly makes them the “third” South Korean group to reach the list.
Before ‘Sour Candy’
Prior to their collaboration with Lady Gaga, BLACKPINK has always made it into the Billboard 100. But, in the Top 40, ‘Sour Candy’ enabled them to enter the upper charts, which is a first for the K-pop girl group.
Reports noted, though, that they almost made it into the Top 40 list in 2019 with their hit single, ‘Kill This Love.’ As it happened, they reached the 41st spot on the chart. Unfortunately, this became the highest spot they ever reached before their collaboration with the Joanne artist.
Nevertheless, this does not make the group’s effort and talent any less. As pointed out, they have always made “musical history” in almost every of their output, according to Radio. Also, the same publication said that they became the first K-pop group to perform at Coachella.
The “comeback”
A few weeks after ‘Sour Candy,’ they released their latest single, ‘How You Like That.’ Reports have continued to follow the track’s successes and achievements as it has also broken several records upon its release.
BLACKPINK will reportedly release a new album later this year. Many are reportedly certain that the successes of ‘Sour Candy’ and ‘How You Like That’ are just the beginning of their much grander path to making history in the world of music.
